ASSIGNMENTS & REPORTS
To the Men of the Amiens Sector:
We are about to undertake a great offensive. It will prove to be a challenge for all of you and your aircraft. Because of the defensive nature of the Hun air strategy we must take the battle to him, which we will do with the utmost vigor. Remember always our primary responsibility is to provide assistance to the ground forces; this is the highest priority, and to do so, we must do everything possible to protect our reconnaissance and observation aircraft. Set forth and do battle knowing that with you are the confidence and heart-felt appreciation of a grateful nation.
Colonel J.B. Wagner-Stowe DSO

Apple, Blue and Culver went balloon busting in sector C with regular ammunition. Upon finding a balloon, Blue managed to hit the gasbag but did not bring her down! Two HALB D3's were waiting above and attacked the Pups. Things got ugly when 2x D3's also showed up! CPT Apple was shot down but managed to bring his Pup down in one piece. He was quickly taken prisoner by a German bavarian unit. He was given a glass of ale and talked late into the night to a German MAJOR who used to teach at the university of London. Young LT Culver was shot down and killed.
Blue was lameducked but managed to get his Pup back to Amiens . . .

NARRATIVE
Defensive Line Patrol
Cpt. Apple and Lt. Ernie took off after a hearty breakfast bound for Albert. Climbing to 11,000 feet, they spotted an ALB CV being escorted by a D2 and D3 at 9,000 feet respectively. The CPT gave the signal to attack and both Pups were soon on the Geman two seater with a tail and a climbing attack. LONG BURSTS and both missed! The D3 pilot was obviously skilled and after that first pass got Apple in his sights, hitting the CPT's oil line and trailing smoke! Apple looked for Ernie's Pup, but once again the lad from Liverpool seemed to be nowhere to be found. Cpt. Apple managed to avoid his attackers the rest of the way, and Ernie joined up with him after the battle at 3,000 feet. Cpt. Apple motioned to Ernie to continue the patrol on his own. Apple headed the smoking Pup in the direction of Amiens a straggler . . .
Ernie soon got jumped by the Red Baron over Albert, and soon even more German planes joined in! Ernie's Pup sustained engine damage courtesy of the Baron - but he escaped a lame duck!
Both Apple and Ernie managed to bring their damaged Pups back to Amiens.

19 Sqdrn. 'A' Flight - Offensive Line Patrol - 1 April, 1917.
Mission # 3 - Offensive line patrol
Sweeping over the trenches at 1,000 feet, the pair got jumped by 3x D2's. The inexperienced Fleming was forced down over the trenches . . .
Presented with a chance to escape, the skilled but timid Ernie did just that; climbing to 15,000 feet over the Boche lines. He then flew back to Amiens, spotting some D3's at lower altitude but declining to attack.
Once back at Amiens, the squadron learned that young Fleming had managed to bring the damaged Pup down inside Allied lines. He is banged up but alive.

Mission # 2 - Photo Recon
LT Baines took off with LTs Dunwood and Fleming. They escorted the Strutter piloted by Sgt Donaldson with the observer Lt. Dunn. Donaldson always takes his small dog in the cockpi with him. Gladstone is the dog's name. Donaldson says he won't be doing loops anyway! They were bound for photos of Boche troop buildups in Cambrai.
DISASTER ! Just miles for Amiens, the four planes were jumped by 4x D3's while still climbing!!!! Lt. Dunn managed to drive 1x D3 off with the rear Vickers - but the skilled german pilots clearly had the upper hand. LT. Baines was shot down and killed in a fireball after colliding with a barn. Dunwood was forced down and seriously wounded. The Strutter was also forced down. The Strutter banged up and Donaldson and Gladstone seriously wounded. LT Dunn was killed in the crash. The youngster Fleming made it back to the airfield.

Mission # 1 - Defensive Line Patrol
Cpt. Apple took off with Lt's Corky and Ernie bound for Albert. The trio climbed to 12,000 feet. Near Bapaume, the skies cleared to a brilliant blue. Flying from this altitude, a man could almost forget a war to end all wars was going on below . . .
In hex S8, 2x D3's were encountred heading back to the Hun lines at 10,000 feet. Apple gave the order to attack - and the dive bonus. A heated dogfight ensued. Apple noticed that the young LT Ernie seemed to disappear . . . Hummmmm. Apple was involved in a duel with one ALB and took an engine hit. Trailing smoke, he annointed Corky the flight leader and Apple took the Pup into the adjacent emergency airfield.
The 2 pups continued and spotted 2x ALb D2's over Baupame. One was trailing smoke! The pair attacked, the Huns again escaped. Corky noticed that again in the fight, Lt. Ernie seemed to disappear . . . Hummmmm.
Corky and Ernie regouped at 9,000 feet and headed toward Mercatel. Almost at Mercatel, the pair met 4x D3's from the Flying Circus itself. This time, Ernie didn't have the opportunity to run! Lt. Corky was wounded and his engine damaged. the huns broke off. Corky signaled for Ernie to continue the mission and officailly became a straggler. Ernie reported last seeing him heading toward the emergency airfield at hex N5 . . .
Ernie climbed back to 12,000 feet. The clouds moved in. Over Mercatel, after examining his fuel gauge, Ernie decided to head back to Amiens. He did so successfully without encountering any additional German aircraft.
Upon returning to the airfield, he and the squadron learned that a truck convoy heading to the front, noticed a limping Pup get shot down by a couple of german aircraft in the sector of Mercatel. The pilot was killed . . .
