After our successful offensive line patrol this afternoon, Capt Edeline allowed me to head back out to strafe the enemy and encourage our troops. I think the heavy cloud had a lot to do with his decision.
I flew southeast from Corbie, turning northeast to reach the lines between Mercatel and Bapaume. I made may way methodically northward, waving to our troops as I made the Germans scurry for cover. My gun did jam once, but I cleared it easily and made a second strafing pass over the same area, just so the Germans wouldn't think they were getting away with anything.
A light rain was falling by the time I arrived southeast of Arras. I'd covered a good stretch of the lines and expended most of my ammunition, so I headed for home in the failing light.
